Students at San Pablo Elementary are being lifted up by the arts

Updated: Oct 19, 2018

Sept. 17, 2018 - With big smiles and brightly-colored wings, students at San Pablo Elementary School are flocking together to show how arts education lifts them up!

The school's 450-plus students participated in the "How Does Arts Education Lift You" project during the week of Sept. 10-14, which is National Arts Education Week.

Using the inspiration of muralist Kesley Montague and her "What Lifts You" series, art teacher Sunni Myers and music teacher Jessica Barker constructed a giant set of wings.

Written on the paper feathers were messages from each student describing how having arts education makes them happy.

In addition to weekly art and music classes, San Pablo has multiple after-school clubs with an arts focus like chorus, dance, drama club, and the rock city music club.

National Arts Education Week spotlights the importance of arts education in our schools.
