Sept. 5, 2018 – When it comes to what fuels Rachid Mechmech’s work as an Algebra and Geometry teacher, his response is simple – passion.
“We do it because we really love the kids,” said the Kirby-Smith Middle School educator. “We really try to contribute to our society in a sense to help, and make sure we have strong leaders for the future. It gives me great satisfaction to serve the students.”
His many years in the classroom have taught Mechmech that there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to instruction. In order to meet the varied needs of his students, Mechmech says differentiated instruction is key.
“We use rotations, we have additional resources…sometimes you have to sit with them one-on-one,” he said. “Every student learns differently. So you have to find the best practice that’s going to make a good impact on the student.”
Duval County Public Schools’ video production team recently spent time in one of Mechmech’s geometry classes. Watch the video to hear more about the educator’s secrets to success in the classroom.
