Aug. 24, 218 - Duval County Public Schools is thankful for the recent announcement that Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company, donated 1,000 engaging children’s books to Lake Forest Elementary School
“I cannot overestimate the value of this donation to our school,” said Lake Forest Elementary principal, Angela Maxey. “Raising our literacy rates is one of our primary goals. Not only will this boost literacy in our school, but because these are brand new, children-favorite-books, this will also help foster a love of reading and create a culture of literacy among our students.”
The presentation took place Thursday evening at the school’s open house. Students and families selected from a variety of new books, including many popular series, to keep and add to their home libraries. Teachers were also able to take advantage of the donation by augmenting their classroom libraries.
